St Mary's swimming gala - years 5/6, November 2019
‘On Friday 15th November, Year 5 and 6 took part in a swimming gala at St Mary's School. We competed against 9 other schools. We swam in teams of year 5 and 6 boys and girls. Jonty competed in the year 5 boys backstroke and won this race. The year 5 girls won the freestyle relay and the year 6 boys came 2nd in the freestyle relay. We all supported our team mates and everyone helped each other to do their best.
The overall results came in after some lengthy deliberation from the judges and the year 5 team came 5th, the year 6 team came 10th and the overall position was 8th out of all the teams. There was some great swimming and we felt grateful we could take part with all the other Dorset schools.'

District High 5's Festival, Salisbury - December 2018
The High 5’s team represented the school at the district finals on Thursday and enjoyed playing against some very challenging teams. Tristan has written a report about the tournament:
“Yesterday the High-5s team took part in the district final at Five Rivers in Salisbury. Ten teams from the area took part. We played 4 games against some very strong competition. We beat Broad Chalke 3-1, drew one match and lost the other two. Despite some minor injuries, we all had a fantastic time, encouraged by Mrs Weston and our parents. We played well as a team and our accurate passing and footwork has paid off.”
NSEA - showjumping championships, January 2019
Eight Wardour pupils and their ponies travelled down to Moreton in the pouring rain last Saturday for the National Schools Equestrian Association Show Jumping Championships, an event they qualified for in 2018. After an early start, first up was the 40cm team of Bea, riding Chalice, Evie on Diamond, Pip on Comet and Summer riding Rolo. Pip was very unlucky to have a knock at the planks, a fence which also caught out Summer & Rolo despite having started so well; Bea flew round achieving an individual 5th place for style, Bea being the youngest competitor by a considerable margin! Georgiana gave her pony Carrie a very educational warm-up experience but the arena atmosphere proved a bit too much; Harry gave a wonderful exhibition of how to somersault down your pony's neck and Evie sensibly decided that Diamond had done enough and was too tired to compete and although Jonty was clear it was a much steadier round and not in the ribbons. Everyone did extremely well and despite the rain had lots of fun - if anyone would like to compete for Wardour in the future do contact Mrs Windsor.

Football tournament, Tisbury - January 2019
On Monday the football team set off for the tournament at the Nadder Centre. After some warm-up practice, it was finally kick off against Semley. Sam scored a goal between the keeper’s leg but it ended up as a draw. Next game was tough—against St John’s, who just managed to beat us. Our first win was against Chilmark and then we played the reigning champions, Shaftesbury. We drew against them with some amazing defence and striking. Finally, we played Mere who won. We played off for third and fourth place against St John’s. It was a close game but they just beat us, 3 goals to 2 so we were fourth overall. We were very proud of our performance and look forward to playing next year.

Year 5/6 Swimming gala - St Mary's School
Last Friday seventeen enthusiastic Year 5 and Year 6 swimmers set off to St Mary’s School for a swimming gala involving sixteen local schools. We were a little nervous as this competition fed into the regional finals and there were many official looking people dressed in white and holding stop watches!
Despite competing against club swimmers and schools with their own pools to practise in, we are really proud of our results:
From the many races that took place these are the highlights:
The Year 6 boys’ freestyle relay came 9th
Y6 girls’ freestyle relay came 8th
Harry came 4th in the Y5 boys’ 50m backstroke
Minnie came 4th in the Y6 girls’ 50m backstroke
Tristan came 3rd in the Y6 boys’ 50m breaststroke and Willa came 3rd in the Y6 girls’ 100m freestyle, beating her personal best and completing the four lengths in 133 seconds – 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
Football Tournament - Shaftesbury School
Last Friday, two very excited teams of girls and boys from Year 3, 4 and 5 set-off for Shaftesbury Primary School for a much anticipated football tournament. Both teams sat out for the first match but took the opportunity to watch the other teams play. The boys’ first game was a great success against Motcombe B - Wardour won 6-1. With goals scored by Jasper, Harry and Arthur. Meanwhile the girls were also putting up a good fight against experienced players but unfortunately lost two matches and drew two – against Motcombe B and Shaftesbury Primary. With Martha being their chief scorer! Well done Martha.
We mustn’t forget our goalies: they were also fearless in both teams and never gave up. Overall the girls came 4th in the tournament. The boys also had a 2-1 win against Shaftesbury Primary B team, putting them in 3rd position, out of eight teams. Well done everyone for showing great team work; supporting one another and above all, enjoying the opportunity to compete.

During Sports Week, the children took part in a host of activities including an inter house football tournament, pop lacrosse, staff versus year 6 High 5's match and year 3 and 4 took part in a local tennis tournament.
